SO today I went to pick up my new !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - as some of you may have heard my purchase experience was less than ideal. Seller really seemed to be taking advantage of my good nature a bit - repeatedly raising the price after we had made agreements and refusing to return my deposit after I tried to walk away.

ANYWAY, today was the day for her to come home. I took the 80 mile drive down to Princeton, NJ with my dad and a fellow 944 owner for the pickup. Things went relatively smoothly - I put the plates and registration on, and we were off.
About a mile down the road I noticed a burning smell. Seemed to be somewhat minor, so I decided to wait until I got to the gas station I was headed to before checking it out. The car felt a little sluggish, but I chalked this up to not having been driven in a while.
When I pulled into the gas station, I quickly noticed a rather large plume of smoke that appeared to be coming from under the hood. When I got out of the car however, I could see the smoke was coming from the front driver's side brakes. They had seized during my 2 mile drive to the gas station and were pouring smoke. In addition to this, I noticed an alarmingly large puddle of coolant growing under the car. Not good signs.
We located a mechanic about 10 minutes away who specialized in Porsches and foreign sports cars and elected to try to limp the car there once the brakes cooled. After about 20 minutes, the pads had separated from the rotor and we made the (slow) trip down the road.
So now, I am penny-less and 944-less. Hoping to get it back soon, but not looking forward to the prognosis and invoice I will be shortly receiving. Updates to come.

Can you Lemon Law used cars in your state?

I know just who to send and straighten out the seller...

Not sure exactly how this works. I bought the car in NJ but I live in NY. Anybody have any insight on this?

I don't think any of those apply across state lines, unfortunately, and they rarely apply to used cars.

Why didn't you just AAA the damn thing home, replace the caliper and hopefully the hose? Would of been cheaper than having a Porsche specialist work on it. As for the Lemon Law, you'd have to follow NJ laws. I'm not sure you'd be covered due to the age of the vehicle. I forget as it's been a while since I had to check the lemon laws but using the system on pvt party transactions is very difficult. Again not 100% sure but I think you would have had to have the car fail inspection first rather than bringing it straight to a mechanic. Repairs bills need to = a certain percentage of the purchase price and I believe it needs to end up at a repair shop multiple times. Don't quote me on any of this stuff as I'm just going by memory on a different state's laws. BUT I can tell you right now that you can forget about getting any of your money back. I would send the guy a certified letter asking for reimbursement of part of the repair bill or threaten a small claims suit and hope it scares him into paying. I would say play nice first and ask for help with the bill but the guy seems like an asshole from what you said above. I haven't read your first post about the purchase but no issues upon test driving the car?? Anyway, I'm sorry. Not being able to enjoy your new car sucks but once the car is fixed and you forget about the extra costs, you'll have a blast driving it!

I would have turned right around, gone back to the seller and demanded my money back saying if he didn't, I would threaten to sue since they obviously sold me a defective and unsafe vehicle and I could have been killed. Fuck that guy, especially since he was already shady.

Can the guy actually do that? I mean, raise a price that's been agreed upon and refusing tolet you walk out of a purchase that turned sour? Couldn't you have put the cops on his ass?
